Peony Garden

In the heart of the Viterbo hinterland, the garden is a unique place in the world.

Il Giardino delle Peonie di Virtorchiano

Near Vitorchiano (VT), an evocative village immersed in Tuscia, the Moutan Botanical Centre, which includes the peony Garden, is a unmissable place. Created at the end of the last century by the entrepreneur Carlo Confidati, a great lover of plants, the garden boasts the richest and most complete collection of shrubs and herbaceous peonies in the world.

The more than 250,000 specimens, with names that evoke ancient legends, such as “Gifts from the black dragon” and “Blue Phoenix with spread wings”, form a colourful and magical carpet framed by cypresses and olive trees and interspersed with pergolas of wisteria and lilac.
